Euro 2020 Qualifiers: Bulgaria Head Coach Krasimir Balakov Resigns
Krasimir Balakov, the head coach of Bulgaria national team, has stepped down from his position following the country's fans' racist abuse of English players on Monday.
England had to endure racist chanting and Nazi salutes from Bulgarian fans during the match. Efforts made by the referee by stopping the match twice for a public announcement to the audience in the stadium to stop their misconduct proved futile as they simply continued to the end.
Racist behaviors failed to yield any tangible results for the hosts as they suffered a massive 6-0 defeat to England with Ross Barkley and Raheem Sterling scoring twice for the team to earn maximum points and overtook the Czech Republic to top Group A of the Euro 202 qualifiers.
In a statement from Balakov on his resignation, the 53-year-old dismissed the notion that his decision to step down has to do with issues of racism but how his team has fared in the qualifiers.

"My decision to step down has nothing to do with Prime Minister Borissov asking for my resignation the day after the game vs England," he clarified. "My patience is over. We did what we had to do regarding the security during the game against vs England. Bulgaria is not a racist country."
Resigning alongside Balakov was the president of Bulgarian Football Union (BFU) , Borislav Mihaylov, who was asked to step down by the country's Prime Minister following racist chanting and Nazi salutes from the fans towards the English side.
Balakov who denied any racist behaviors during the match also apologized on behave of his team but required that claims be proven, saying: "I was concentrated on the game."
"I didn't actually hear anything but I just talked to the English press downstairs and I told that if this is proven to be true, then we have to be ashamed and we have to apologize for it."
The country's federation confirmed the resignation of its former president Mihaylov and just as the team's former manager, dismissed the decision has anything to do with racism but the team's poor performance at the qualifiers of which it is obvious they will not be qualifying as they are at the bottom of the table with 3 points.
