Eliud Kipchoge Makes History As First Human To Run Marathon In Less Than Two Hours

Kenyan athletic star Eliud Kipchoge has made history as the first person ever to run a marathon in less than two hours in Vienna, Austria.

A few yards away from the line, it was a race against time for the four-time London half-marathon champion and paced up with a beaming smile all over his face, pushing harder to ensure he meets up and did in 20 minutes shy of his target.

Ahead of the race, expectations were high that the 34-year-old potentially can be the first person to undo the feat and he delivered on that as he crossed the finish line in 1.59:40.

"I am feeling good," said the world marathon record holder who ran into the arms of his wife and kids on crossing the finish line.

"After Roger Bannister in 1954, it took another 63 years, I tried and I did not get it - 65 year, I am the first man - I want to inspire many people that no human is limited."

Kipchoge brilliantly worked out his plan by keeping in the trail of his pace setters to save up his strength until late when he got fired up and raced past for the ultimate task of setting a world marathon record in less than two hours.

"He has inspired all of us that we can stretch our limits in our lives. You have made history," Kipchoge's coach, Patrick Sang, said in his praise.

"For humanity, whatever level you are in you can move yourself to another level. Records are meant to be broken so down the line, someone will try again but history has been made."
