El Clasico: Barcelona v Real Madrid Postponed Over Protests In Catalonia
This month's El Clasico between Barcelona and Real Madrid has been postponed following civil unrest in the country that has landed nine separatist leaders in prison on Monday.
La Liga had filed in a request to the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) to change the venue for the match which was meant to be held at Barcelona's Nou Camp on 26 October to Real Madrid's Bernabeu because of the ongoing protest in Catalan.
Barcelona have not shared the same ground with La Liga neither with Real and wanted the match not to be changed since Catalan Football Federation suspension of all matches in the region did not include the club.
Manager Ernesto Valverde is strongly against changing the venue to their opponents' and since there are no agreements between the two clubs, La Liga also requested that the match be postponed instead claiming that the situation in the region is an "exceptional circumstances beyond our control".
The defending champions, Barca, also argued against that stance in a statement using its position to reach out to the country's leaders: "Now more than ever, the club asks all potential leaders to lead a process of dialogue and negotiate to resolve this conflict."
