China Open: Dominic Thiem Crowned Champion After Routing Tsitsipas Stefanos In The Final

Stefanos Tsitsipas seemed set for glory until Dominic Thiem fought back from a set down and routed the Greek in three sets, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 for his fourth title of the season.

After losing the opener to Tsitsipas, the Austrian took an early break for a 4-2 lead but the Greek rallied and leveled 4-4 with a break of service. Thiem remained resilient and fought back to claim a breakpoint to win the second set.

Tsitipas admitted losing the final match has to do with him not making the right decisions, he said: "I was so close. Literally one point from getting a break, serving for the championship. I did just the wrong thing. I went back, wanted to take some time, in which he played smart."

The Greek player was sort of sloppy in the decider as Thiem aggressively took an early break for 5-0 lead and he struck wide a backhand return to seal the victory for the Austrian to claim the trophy - his career 15th title and first in Beijing, China.

"It's definitely one of my biggest titles because the tournament is so strong," Thiem said. "[It] makes me very happy that I stand as the champion at the end of the week."

In ATP title leaders for 2019 season, the world no. 5 ties with Roger Federer (4), Novak Djokovic (4) to be third in the list and also, has earned 500 ATP points from the victory. The victory qualified him for the Nitto ATP Finals, which will be held at the O2 Arena in London on November 10-17.
