US Open: Grigor Dimitrov Upset Roger Federer In Stunning Five-setter


It will be Grigor Dimitrov's first-time appearance in the US Open semi-final and reach the feat by upsetting Roger Federer in the quarter-finals for his career third major semi-final.

In an electrifying match that lasted for three hours and 12 minutes, the Bulgarian fought back from a set down and withstood the third seed brilliant use of backhand to outclass him in five sets, 3-6, 6-4. 3-6, 6-4, 6-2. The shock defeated terminated the 38-year-old's bid sixth US Open title.

Grigor had the five-time champion well contained by every means possible, understanding dynamics to how he uses his backhand and charging at the net to gain set points, the 28-year-old kept the dimension of his shots deep into the court. After forcing the match into a decider, Federer had already waned in aggression whilst he moved on to breeze through for a big win.

Speaking after the loss, Federer, who was to some extent disappointed by the how he was eliminated, but admitted defeat is part of the game and being a family man, he hopes to spend more time with his family.

"It's just a missed opportunity to some extent that you're in the lead, you can get enough, you have two days off after. It was looking good," he lamented about his defeat. "But got to take the losses. They're part of the game. Looking forward to family time and all that stuff."

Nevertheless, he has so far won three titles this season and is a centenarian in ATP singles title. Also, he will be featuring at the Nitto ATP Finals In November at the O2 Arena in London.
