US Open: Daniil Medvedev Beats Grigor Dimitrov To Reach First Career Grand Slam Final

Daniil Medvedev has successfully made through to the final of the US Open after outlasting Grigor Dimitrov in the semis to reach his career first-ever Grand Slam in Flushing Meadows.

Both players put up strong resilience at the opener and slugged it out through a tiebreak but Grigor would crack first and lose aggression subsequently as Medvedev cruise on for a three-set win, 7-6(5), 6-4, 6-3.

Dimitrov was coasting to taking the opener at 6-5 after winning a breakpoint on the Russian serve but allowed the set enter into a tiebreak for an unforced error committed on returning the 23-year-old forehand shot.

"Today I felt he was closer to winning the first set, but I won't it and that changed the momentum of the match," said the Russian who also broke the second set at 5-4 after the Bulgarian missed to the net.

The two-set lead Grigor handed down to Medvedev gave him the advantage to take an early break for a 3-1 lead in the decider and powered through to wrap it up for his second victory in three head-to-head counts against the 2017 Nitto ATP Finals champion.

Medvedev, who had already won two titles this season - Cincinnati Masters and Sofia Open - will set up a final match against the winner between Rafael Nadal and Matteo Berrettini. However, reaching the final made him of the very few players who in the same season played in Washington, Canada, Cincinnati and US Open final.
