US Open: Bianca Andreescu Denies Serena Williams 24th Grand Slam Title, Becomes Youngest Champion In Flushing Meadows In 13 Years
Serena Williams will have to wait another season to reach a record-tying feat of 24th career Grand Slam title after losing the US Open final to Bianca Andreescu, who became the youngest player to win the title after Russian player Maria Sharapova in 2006.
In front of the fully packed Authur Ashe Stadium with England's Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle in attendance, the Canadian, 19, stunned the American and soared through two sets to win her career first Grand Slam title by 6-3, 7-5.
A victory could have meant Serena ties record with retired player Australian Margeret in all-time biggest Grand Slam winner. More so, the five-time last won the US Open in 2014 and has since given birth to her daughter Alexis Jr. in 2017, has been unable to win a title as a mother.
The teenager set off strong taking an early break in the opener and fought back a rally from Serena, winning two set points and break the opener after the American double fault at 5-3.

"It's so hard to explain, but I'm just beyond grateful and truly blessed," said Bianca who served 10 aces and saved five breakpoints advantages faced against the former champion.
However, Serena staged a stunning comeback in the decider after the Canadian surged ahead for an early break, saving a championship point on a rally to level up by 5-5 having won four straight games. Eventually, Bianca emerged as the champion by 7-5 winning a breakpoint on her serve.
She added, "I've worked hard. This year has been a dream come true and to play here on this stage with Serena, a true legend of the sport, is amazing."
Serena, for two seasons, has reached the US Open and Wimbledon final back-to-back only to finish as runner-up as her title drought lasted. Nevertheless, she has two Grand Slam to win to tie and pass record set by Court. That has remained a big challenge and age is not on her side.
