Singapore GP Final Qualifier: Charles Leclerc Claims Third Successive Pole Position
Ferrari retained their pace with the Monegasque taking a 0.2s lead over the dominating drivers Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel to retain the pole position he first won in Belgium and then in Italy.
Sebastian had held a provisional pole for Ferrari in the view that Ferrari will be taking first two frontline row but the 21-year-old leapfrogged over him for the pole to finish in 1:36.217 seconds and Hamilton as well came in from behind in a late stunner to take the second place from the German.
For three consecutive races, Hamilton has been denied the pole by the Scuderia Ferrari driver, who is set for his first career three successive victories in a row at the final on Sunday.
The Briton admitted there are improvements in his opponents' pace especially Charles who has been a strong race contender since Belgium as he said afterwards: "I don't know where Ferrari picked up their pace today."
"It was potentially not one of their tracks, but Charles put a great lap in. I'm happy to be on the front row and in the mix with them."
Valtteri Bottas was not that contentious like he would previously with raising pace from Ferrari and its reigning driver Leclerc and was beaten by Red Bull's Max Verstappen who finished in the fourth position.
"I'm extremely happy about today," Leclerc said afterwards. "There were some moments when I thought I had lost the car, but I took it back. I would like to thank the team so much."
