Samuel Eto'o Announces Retirement From Professional Football
It is sure the end of an era for former Barcelona and Inter Milan forward Samuel Eto'o who teased of calling quits his professional football career that has lasted through 22 years.
The former Cameroonian international made the announcement in a caption to an Instagram picture update on Friday. Early this year, he was quoted as saying that he hopes to continue his professional career with Qatar SC when his one-season contract signed with the Qatari in 2018 runs out with this summer.
He also teasing on his intentions to take up a new career but didn't give details as to what should be expected. He wrote in the update, "The end. Towards a new challenge. Thank you all, big love."
The 38-year-old who was for four-time voted African Player of the Year, started his career at Real Madrid but enjoyed trophy-ladened spell at Mallorca, Barcelona and Inter Milan, winning 15 trophies including three Champions League.
During the career that lasted through two decades, Eto'o also touched down in Premier League where he played for Chelsea and Everton, scoring in the span of his career 350 goals in 759 appearances.
