Sam Smith Wants To Be Referred To As "They" And Not "He"

British singer Sam Smith has chosen to identify with them and they pronouns only which to the singer are more gender-neutral third-person pronouns than he and him for a non-binary person.

The Essex-born artist announced his choice of pronouns in a series of tweeted messages on Friday and explained that he has finally come to terms with the person he is through and through.

"Today is a good day so here goes. I've decided I am changing my pronouns to THEY/THEM," Sam wrote. "After a lifetime of being at war with my gender, I've decided to embrace myself for who I am, inside and out..."

In another tweet, the 27-year-old acknowledged that will be a lot struggle to not make mistake at since it is traditionally used to suggest the subject is not singular but urged people to try and learn since he no longer identifies with pronoun him and he.

"I understand there will be many mistakes and mis gendering but all I ask is you please please try. I hope you can see me like I see myself now. Thank you."

In June, Sam announced his new gender identity in an interview with GQ and explained that they felt somewhere in the "middle" but at the time was not certain about it being what it is today, non-binary.
