Premier League: Manchester City Take Big Win Against Watford To Set New Record For High-Scoring Defeat
Totally embarrassing game for Watford which suffered a humiliating 8-0 defeat to Manchester City with Bernardo Silva sealing a hat-trick for the side, which set a new feat for biggest scoring defeat since 2011 when Manchester United beat Arsenal 8-2 at Old Trafford.
City recovered from a surprising 3-2 away loss to Norwich City last week that sent shock waves because the defending champions were expected to have a much easier game on the day.
Anyways, Watford faced the harsh side of City at Etihad Stadium as they watch five goals scored withing 17 minutes right from the first minutes of play.
Sergio Aguero scored the second goal and became the player to score in seven consecutive Premier League appearances after Romelu Lukaku in 2015 |
Hornets misery started with David Silva, who slid in for Kevin De Bruyne's cross from the right flank and latched in the opener, then Sergio Aguero converted a penalty conceded Ben Foster on Riyadh Mahrez, moment after Gerard Deulofeu wasted a chance to equalise the lead for Watford.
Just moments later, Mahrez added in the third goal, scoring from a free-kick from the edge of the box and Bernardo scored his first and fourth goal with a header with a headed pass from Aguero, who later struck a pass through into the box for Nicolas Otamendi to finish for the fifth goal in 18th minutes.
Bernando Silva scored the fourth goal with a header en route scoring his season's first hat-trick |
Upon their return from break, Bernardo added two more goals and Kevin De Bruyne completed the scoring with the eighth goal late into the game.
The defeat will be the heaviest defeated suffered by Hornets to a top-flight club in the Premier League and their third since 1959 in a 8-1 loss Crystal Palace and 8-1 defeat to Aberdare Athletic.
Whilst the five goals scored within 18 minutes by City was the fastest recorded for a club in the Premier League, the opener scored by David Silva is the season's fastest goal.
