Premier League: Liverpool Extend Unbeaten Run By Beating Sheffield United
Sheffield United could not snap Liverpool's unbeaten run in seven consecutive matches as they extended their table leadership to eight points away from their closest rivals, Manchester City.
The first half of the game saw two great chances from Sadio Mane who first struck the ball wide from close range and the second clipped the bottom of the right pole to bounce back into the area.
Liverpool faced a short period of resurgence from Sheffield before Roberto Firminio's headed pass from Divock Origi landed at his reach and smacked the ball into the goal from the edge of the 18-yard box to put the team ahead in 70th minutes.
Minutes later, a poor back pass put Sheffield in trouble as Mo Salah gained control of the ball and drove in for a finish but thanks to goalkeeperDean Henderson who stopped the Egyptian's shot from going in.
"It's normal you have to work hard for the points," Jurgen Klopp said afterward. "We were deserved winners. if it's 0-0 we cannot moan and would not. But if there's one winner it should be us."
The seventh successive league match victory is the first time for Liverpool since 1990/91 and have remained unbeaten in 24 league matches which is their longest winning streak since 1988.
