FIBA World Cup: Spain Battles Australia Through Double Overtime To Reach Final


Team Spain will be playing in the FIBA World Cup final for the first time since 2006 after outlasting Australia in a semifinal that lasted through double overtime with Toronto Raptors' Gasol Marc leading the Spaniards to victory.

Marc dropped in 33 points, six rebounds, and four assists en route the team's 95 - 88 victory over Australia which was led by Patty Mills who topped the standouts with 34 points, three rebounds, and two assists.

The Spaniards seized the fourth quarter as a comeback chance after trailing the Aussies for through through previous quarters. They cut down the deficits to take the lead by 71-70 with Marc scoring two free-throw in last 8.7 second. 

Patty stepped in for Australia in last 4 seconds and pushed the game to overtime  a free-throw having failed to score two free-throw attempt, Ricky Rubio leaped to pit in the second throw for a rebound that tied that game. 

After battling through first overtime that ended in a tie, Segio Llull gave pain the push to coast by scoring a crucial three-point to lead by 90-82 as the team progressed to the first final in over a decade. 

Gasol who won the NBA Championship with Toronto Raptors expressed his confidence in getting the World Cup title bid done for Spain afterwards, "I don't want to lose a second thinking of what would be, what it would mean for us "

Following Gasol in scoring for Spain is Phoenix Suns' ace Rubio picked up a 19 points, seven rebounds and 12 assists for a double-double, and former EuroLeague MVP Llull added to the scoring 17 points, 2 rebounds and 7 assists.
