FIBA World Cup: Nigeria Edge Host China To Qualify For 2020 Tokyo Olympics


Team Nigeria defiled pressure faced from roaring Chinese fans and past the host team for their third successive victory by 86-73 despite former Milwaukee Bucks player Yi Jianlian putting up 27 points, six rebounds and two assists.

The victory guaranteed Nigerian's qualification for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics having finished as the best team from the continent of Africa amongst other contenders like Senegal, Ivory Coast, Tunisia and Angola. 

Trailing the Chinese side from the first quarter, the Nigerian side came in stronger in the second quarter to take the lead by four points margin. Instrumental to the team's fightback and dominance through the second half of the game is Minnesota Timberwolves guard Okogie Josh who picked up 19 points, five rebounds, and three assists. 

Team China got a push by Abudushalamu Abudurexiti who knocked down a three-pointer and two free throws in the last two minutes but Okogie kept Nigeria in save zone dropping in a three-pointer on challenge, winning free throw for the team as well.

Nigeria coast to a decisive victory with Aminu Al-Faroug converting a free throw to pick up 6 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists whilst Udoh Ekpe second on the stats for Team Nigeria with 13 points and two rebounds.
