Eden Hazard Reveals Football Fans Are More "Fanatical" In Spain Than England
Eden Hazard is at the beginning of his Spanish La Liga spell after moving to Real Madrid from Chelsea where he had spent seven seasons before calling it quits this summer.
The Belgium international who made a debut appearance in Real's 3-2 home victory against Levante on Saturday has something to say about the difference between Spanish football fans and their English counterparts, based on his observations within three months that he has stayed in the country.
Contrary to English fans, Hazard holds to a notion that in Spain, fans are truly fans and can be "fanatical" about the team they support with the expectation that they win always especially at Champions League level.
"In England, there are not so many fans, people there like football and everyone, young, adult, teenagers, are really interested in their football, but they are not fanatical about their teams," he said.
Before Hazard was signed to Real, he had since after the 2018 Fifa World Cup been linked to the club, but it did not materialise until this summer in July when he was signed for £115million which will see him earn nearly £400,000 weekly at the club.
Explaining why he believes the Spanish fans are more passionate, he said: "When you are at Real Madrid, even if it is my first year, talking to the fans, they always expect you to win the Champions League."
That position on his take on the fans might sound untrue to some but the 28-year-old also mentioned that when he was at Chelsea, losing does not really like a disaster to their fans even when it is disappointing that have lost.
Hazard is expected to make the lineup for Real Madrid Champions League opener against Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday, which Brazilian star player Neymar Jr is expected to miss over two-match suspension from last season following his reactions to referee's decision during PSG's defeat to Manchester United.
