Champions League: Chelsea Boss Frank Lampard Reacts To Ross Barkley's Penalty Miss Against Valencia
In terms of ball control, the English side did favourably well and had chances to score with Willian making serious effort to get a goal in before Rodrigo stunned the team with an opening for the Spaniard in the second half.
At this point, all hope was not lost for Blues following a handball committed by the Spaniards' defender in the box and gifted the hosts a lifeline to level the scoring, unfortunately that chance was wasted by Ross Barkley, who took the penalty sending the ball in flight to hit the crossbar and out of tough it bounced off to.
"Ross is a penalty taker and is when he starts games," Frank Lampard insisted Barkley is the team's #1 penalty taker. "He took it and missed it. It is a great story to say there is contention between players. If he scores it is not a story. But he took it and missed. That is it."

That emotional moment was a huge let down for the team as Willian discussed taking the spot-kick with him but the English player insisted on taking the shot only to miss eventually.
The 46-year-old manager added, "The disappointment to all of us is that we didn't get a chance to win the game. There is no issue in the dressing room."
"We had a fair few chances. And then the penalty, which we miss. We have to keep our heads up. There is a long way to go. It is a lesson. Teams at this level can hurt you."
Besides the penalty loss, Chelsea had a huge blow to the starting lineup when Mason Mount went down with following a challenge after 14 minutes into the match. He left the pitch limping.
