Barcelona, Real Madrid Plotting To Snatch Virgil van Dijk From Liverpool
Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp are going to face huge pressure from Spanish rivals Real Madrid and FC Barcelona, who are reportedly plotting to launch a serious bid for centre-back player Virgil van Dijk in January transfer window.
Since Dijk left Southampton for Liverpool in December 2017, he has been an incredible player at Anfield and the team's successes last season can be attributed to huge contributions from him at both continental and domestical level.
He was voted Premier League Player of the Season for his role in the team that finished as runners-up behind Manchester City by just a point. He led the team to win the 2018/19 Champions League and the UEFA Super Cup.
According to a Spanish outlet AS, both La Liga giants, Real and Barca, are ready for a break the bank fee for the Dutch player, who Liverpool signed for £75 million from Southampton - a record-setting fee that was the biggest for a defender until Harry Maguire was signed to Manchester United for £80 million last season.
It is understood that both Zinedine Zidane and his Catalan rival Ernesto Valverde, are under intense pressure to deliver and that called for an urgent need of the Dutch international.
For Barcelona, they have not reached the final of the Champions League since 2014/15 but for Real Madrid, they had a three successive title reign (2015/16, 2016/17 and 2017/18) under Zidane only that they have not won Spanish La Liga since 2016/17.
At the UEFA Men's Player of the Year award, Dijk won more votes than Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo to emerge as the winner of the prestigious award, making him the first centre-back to clinch the award since 2010/11.
