Wesley Sneijder Retires From Professional Football

Former Dutch player Wesley Sneijder has retired from professional football after a 17 years long career that began at AFC Ajax in 2002.

Sneijder, who ended his career at Qatari side Al Gharafa after spending a season at the club, also played for Real Madrid where he won La Liga with the club (2007-09) and proceeded to join Inter Milan for a trophy-laden four seasons spell, winning a treble with the club - the Champions League, Coppa Italia and the Serie A in debut season under Jose Mourinho.

Announcing his retirement, he told Ajax YouTube channel, "Now I've retired from football I want a nice place to share my memories. My connection to the town is big"

Inter sent their farewell wishes to their former midfielder in a tweeted message accompanied by a picture that reads as, "THANK YOU. It was a pleasure watching you showcase your skill with us, @sneijder101010. Best of luck for the future! #InterForever."

Aside from being former Real Madrid and Inter Milan player, he also played for Turkish side Galatasaray (2013-17) and Ligue 1 side Nice (2017-18).
