US Open: Alexander Zverev Prevails In Five-Setter Against Frances Tiafoe To Reach Third Round


Being a home tournament for Frances Tiafoe, he gave it a good fight against Alexander Zverev but was defeat by the more resilient German player in the second round.

Meanwhile, the American adopted an aggressive approach towards the match, the combination of slices and groundstroke shots could not keep him through the round.

That being said, the sixth-seeded served started strong taking an early break in the first set before the #NextGenATP American picked up on his pace and rallied back. Eventually, Zevrev outlasted him in three hours and nine minutes winning by 6-3. 3-6, 6-2, 2-6, 6-3.

Frances Tiafoe is yet to win a title at any event since making professional debut appearance in France in 2015

"Frances gave me an unbelievable fight today," Zverev admitted to the resilience the American put up against him. "I'm just happy to get the win somehow."

Zevrev takes a 4-1 lead over the 21-year-old American and set up a third-round match against Aljas Bedene fought through five sets to knock Benoit Paire out.
