Tottenham Agree To £55M Initial Fee For Real Betis' Giovani Lo Celso After Barca's Philippe Coutinho Rejects Loan Move
Tottenham has agreed to an initial transfer fee of £55m for Real Betis midfielder Giovani Lo Celso after Barcelona's attacking midfielder Phillipe Coutinho turned down a loan move offer.
With transfer deadline set for Thursday, the Argentine is expected to travel to London for his medical by tomorrow and the deal price reportedly might rise to £60 million on completion.
Tottenham had to call off their interest in Phil because the Brazilian wanted a permanent deal instead and Barcelona are demanding £80 million - an amount Spurs can not meet up with. Since Phil wouldn't change his stance after Spur manager Mauricio Pocchettino tried to convince him in a phone conversation, they had no other alternatives than making a move for Lo Celso.
More so, Spurs' attacking midfielder Christian Eriksen is in talks with Manchester City for a move. It is also understood that Atletico Madrid and it has been speculated that the Danish player would favour a La Liga move rather than remain in the Premier League.
Should Eriksen leave, Celso is expected to fill in the gap left off. However, the 23-year-old scored 16 goals in 45 appearances made for the Spaniards he joined in April after a loan spell from Paris Saint Germain.
