Taylor Swift Scores Biggest Album Sale of the Year For 'Lover'

Taylor Swift's seventh studio album 'Lover' is a massive success as it dominated two major frontiers - China and the United States - in its debut week to be the year's biggest album.

Released on August 23, Lover followed in the stead of the songstress' previous hit albums by dominating the domestic market and racking up 750,000 equivalent album sale in its first week - it is projected to reach 850,000 by the end of the weekend based on a forecast by Universal Music Group.

In China, Lover gained even bigger popularity than anywhere else scoring over a million album sale in five days, making the album the most successful debut of the year. In Europe, Lover also peaked at the #1 spot in consumption in the United Kingdon, Canada, Sweden, Ireland, Australia, Norway and the Netherlands.

At the MTV VMA om Monday, she won two awards for a track from the album 'You Need to Calm Down'. Also, Taylor overtook Blanco Brown to reign at the #1 spot of the Billboard Hot 100 Songwriters Chart. She reached the feat with a trio - You Need to be Calm, Lover and Me.

According to Billboard, Lover is the first album with that much massive performance after Reputation (Taylor's sixth album) which set a record for the biggest first-week sale in the US.

In the US, Reputation scored 1.216 million copies in album sales in the first week which a few thousand lesser than what 1989 took in its first week in 2014 (1.287 million copies). Globally, Reputation recorded 4.5 album sales to be ranked the second best-selling album after Ed Sheeran hit album 'divide'.
