Premier League: Tammy Abraham Gives Chelsea First League Match Win Under Frank Lampard


Chelsea did not find it easy at Norwich City but will have Tammy Abraham to thank for their first victory in the start to the season and importantly under their manager Frank Lampard.

Blues claimed a well-deserved 3-2 victory against Norwich, however, the first half witnessed a thrilling four goals until Tammy, 19, slammed a right-foot shot home for the winning goal after the break.

The 19-year-old opened the scoring early into the game, powering a shot to the goal from inside the box and the hosts responding swiftly with an equaliser minutes later from Todd Cantwell.

Mason Mount put Chelsea back in the lead, dribbling through three defenders and finished with a well-aimed shot from inside the box and Teemu Pukki superbly finished from an acute angle, a through pass from Emiliano Buendia.

Prior to the winning goal from Tammy, Chelsea came made some aimful attempts at the goal and Canaries' goalkeeper Tim Krul stopped the shots from going but caught unaware when the England international swerved past two defenders for a good chance for a shot that went straight into the net.

Chelsea slightly controlled the game over the Canaries but that was not to say that they had the better part of the second half as the host team struggled. Nevertheless, that was not really up to what their manager Frank Lampard would expect from and was not pleased with the two goals conceded.

"The two goals we gave away I didn't like," Lampard said in a post-match interview. "But there were lots of good elements to our play and I'm really pleased."

Before the match, Tammy faced racist abuse for losing a spot-kick that led to the team's defeat to Liverpool in the UEFA Super Cup final.

"I'm particularly pleased for Tammy and he scored two good goals and the winning goal, but I want to talk about all the players today as we controlled the game on a hot day."
