Premier League: Southampton Draw Against Manchester United With A Comeback

Manchester United started off like they were up for the win until Southampton came from behind to wipe out the lead with a header from James Vestergaard and held on to a 1-1.

Despite losing Kevin Danso mid-way the second half for a rough tackle on Scott McTominay, the Saints held on to the game and ended winning drought against United that has lasted for nine Premier League games (D4, L5).

10-man Saints seized the crucial moment gained from pressurising United whose momentum dropped drastically just after the break and Kevin Danso's cross toward the far post was just the right one from Vestergaard to pound in with a header.

After Daniel James had opened the scoring with a superb shot from inside the area early into the game, United could not finish every chance they had against their opponents.

Paul Pogba and Juan Mata made significant contributions to the game but it is obvious that the team is not as sharp as they were compared when they had Romelu Lukaku in the team. The Belgian is now in Inter Milan and is now joined by Aleix Sanchez in a season-long loan move.

Daniel James scored his third goal in four matches

James who was playing his fourth game since joining the club from Swansea now has a total of three goals since his debut against Chelsea. On the other hand, it has not been the best defense for United despite signing Harry Maguire for £80m from Leicester.

"Today, we lacked the finishing edge because he should have won. They created chances and had pressure on them," Ole Gunnar Solksjaer to the BBC Sport afterwards.

Explaining what led to Saints getting an equaliser, he said: "After the first strike, we got a bit careless in our finishing, even passes and build of play. As a result, we encouraged Southampton to get back into the game. "

Winning a match has for three games in a row eluded United after a massive 4-0 victory over Chelsea in the opening match against, the team have considerably dropped in quality with a record of two draws and one home 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace in the previous weekend.
