Premier League: Manchester United Embarrass Chelsea In Opening Match At Old Trafford

Chelsea suffered a massive 4-0 away loss in their opening match against Manchester United with Marcus Rashford notching up a brace and Daniel James scoring his first goal on debut.

It was not the best debut for Frank Lampard who suffered the heaviest defeat for a Chelsea manager in the club's Premier League season's first match in 41 years.

Blues playmaker Eden Hazard had left the team for Real Madrid and David Luiz who could have been a stronghold in the back was sold to Arsenal on transfer deadline day. Nevertheless, they played well only that United were just the better side regardless.

United had a more solid team to handle their rivals which early into the match made a terrific attempt at goal but the right-footed shot from Tammy Abraham clipped the post and bounced off. For the second time in the second half, a should-be goal from Emerson Palmieri inside the box clipped the crossbar and bounced off.

Meanwhile, in-between those attempts, Rashford was tripped inside the box and the English striker converted the penalty for United in the 18th minutes.

Chelsea look perplexed losing the opening match to Manchester United

Chelsea held down the deficit until after the break when Anthony Martial tapped into the goal Andreas Pereira's cross to double the lead and Marcus broke into Chelsea's box from Paul Pogba's cross and slammed a right shot home for the third goal.

Daniel, who alongside Aaron Wan-Bissaka made his debut appearance for United, wrapped up the scoreline with the fourth goal from Pogba's assist minutes before the full time.

It was Chelsea's 104th league match and Lampard who replaced Maurizio Sarrio after leading Derby to the playoffs of the EFL Championship, now take the bottom of the table in 19th position whilst United are second behind Manchester City.
