Pep Guardiola Admits Making "Wrong" Predictions That David Silva Would Not Make Headway In England
David Silva is in his tenth season at Manchester City and coasting to making his 400th appearance for the club, but there was a misgiving about him from Pep Guardiola who predicted he would probably not make headway in England.
At the time David joined City from Valencia, Guardiola was at Barcelona as the manager and now he is presiding over City, he realised that prediction was really off and he is glad to be wrong to have thought the player is not tall enough for Premier League.
"He's a tiny little player," says Guardiola. "My image of English football when I was outside, I thought, 'Maybe he's going to suffer', but I was happily, happily wrong."
Contrary to Guardiola's thought, the Spaniard is well decorated with trophies having won with the club four league titles, four EFL Cups, two FA Cups and two Community Shield - a little bit of digression but yet an adding to the 33-year-old list of honour is winning with Spain the Fifa 2010 World Cup.
Giving his reasons, Guardiola added, "To do 400 games means many years, many bad moments and many good moments and being day-by-day, week-by-week and I admire that."
David, who is a key figure in City's midfield, featured in the team's starting lineup in the club's season-opening match against West Ham but came in as a substitute in the second half in their 2-2 home draw against Tottenham on Sunday.
"It's incredible. For City fans, me included, it's a privilege to see what he's done at the club. He's one of the most incredible, intelligent players...he's one of the best."
