OGC Nice Acquired By Company Owned By British Billionaire
OGC Nice has got a new owner from the United United in the person of Sir Jim Ratcliffe, whose company Ineos bought the Ligue 1 side for £88 million.
Last year, the British billionaire was once linked to Chelsea for a takeover from Roman Abramovic, unfortunately, that interested in the London-based club could not yield result as the Russian oil/gas mogul was not ready to give up his ownership of the club.
Ineos reportedly has been working on acquiring the French club with an initial offer of £111.44m since last year and finally succeeded after the authorities ratified the takeover on Monday. Jim will replace previous owner Chien Lee, the chairman of Chinese-American private investment firm NewCity Capital.
"It has been quite a long journey getting here," Ratcliffe said in a statement. "But it is unique, and we were determined to complete the purchase of the club.
Nice will be the second football club owned by Ineos and Ratcliffe revealed that the company took the same measure they would before acquiring a business and it is their desire to ensure the club makes a regular appearance in continental games
"With some sensible, measured investment, we want to establish OGC Nice as a team that competes in European club competition on a regular basis," Bob said.
Nice finished seventh last season and will not be featuring in this season's Champion League. They have not appeared in the continental game since 2017/18.
Having won their first two games this season, they are currently having an impressive start under Patrick Vieira who replaced Lucien Favre as the club's manager in 2018.
