Marvel Loses Role In Spider-Man Over Sony Pictures And Disney Split

The split between Disney and Sony Pictures has culminated in Spider-Man franchise been taken away from Marvel Cinematic Universe as Disney wanted more stake in the iconic sci-fi live-action film.

The two parties have been discussing the future of the franchise for months and finally come down to agree that role played by Marvel's president Kevin Feige, in the film be reduced to a consultant producer and that the film is mainly financed by the two studios.

By that agreement, Sony which owns the franchise decided to rule out Marvel's involvement in the film according to a statement by the studios on Tuesday night.

Explaining why it slammed the door on Marvel, Sony maintained that it will have to respect Disney's proposal which requires that Kevin's role in the film be scaled down since the workload given to him by Disney is enormous.

"We are disappointed, but respect Disney's decision not to have him (Kevin Feige) as a lead producer of our next live-action Spider-Man film," said Sony in the statement. "We hope this might change in the future, but understand that the many new responsibilities that Disney has given him - including all their newly added Marvel properties - do not allow time for him to work on IP they do not own."

Feige has made a tremendous contribution to the studios. Aside from Spider-Man, he produced one of the most successful films at the box office which includes Avengers: Endgame, Blank Panther and some other. Overall, he has a global gross of $27 billion to his name.
