Hungarian Grand Prix: Lewis Hamilton Chase Down Max Verstappen For Eighth Race Win
Lewis Hamilton reclaimed his race-winning streak with a brilliant overtaking that secured the victory for him over Red Bull's Max Verstappen who started off from pole position.
Whilst Valtteri Bottas was nowhere nearly podium position, the Briton hunted down his Red Bull rival and cleverly secured the race victory with a stunning driving skill in the last three laps. There on, he controlled the remaining laps to finish in 1:35:03.796 seconds.
In the same vein, Sebastian Vettel could not catch up with Verstappen who pitted for new tyres but was able to hunt down his teammate Charles Leclerc late in the third and swerved in on the inside to overtake the Monegasque to claim the third position.
"I feel tired, which is how it should be but I feel really grateful for the day and the team who continue to push me to the limits," Hamilton joyfully said, "We've been together for seven years, but every win feels brand new."
Meanwhile, the defending champion's decision to pit for ultra-fast tyres worked out well and enabled him to gain pace on Verstappen before the brilliant display of overtaking skill that gave him the victory.
It was not an interesting race for Bottas right from the start. It became worse when he damaged his front wing when Leclerc sped by him. The Finn driver pitted for repair but could not recover from the loss of time due to the impact.
However, Hamilton who is left to do the fighting for Mercedes trimmed 20-second time deficit in his chase on Verstappen for the win.
He added, "It was difficult to get by, the defence was great, and I didn't know if I could catch that 19-second gap. I just kept my head down, and each lap was like a qualifying lap."
