Fernando Torres Retires After Playing Last Match With Japanese Side Sagan Tosu
Former Liverpool striker Fernando Torres haa played the last game of his professional football career that has lasted for 18 years and trophy-ladden.
The Spaniard featured in his last game on Friday for Japanese side Sagan Tosu in their 6-1 home defeat to Vissel Kobe - a side former Barcelona midfielder Andres Iniesta plays for.
Torres, 35, who won the UEFA Champions League and Europa League for Chelsea - he joined the club in a then Premier League record signing of £50m - had since June announced his intention to retire this season.
His former La Liga rival player Andre's Iniesta whom he played his last match against, paid tribute to him his statement published by El Mundo.
"Football brought us together more than 20 year ago, when we were children," said Iniesta together with whom he won the Fifa 2010 World Cup. "Well, you will always be El Nino. And it will never separate us."
The former Spain International started his career at Atletico Madrid in 2001 before joining Liverpool after six seasons. He left Reds in 2011 to join Chelsea where he played for four seasons during which he scored 20 goals in 110 appearances.
