Citi Open: Nick Kyrgios Outclassed Daniil Medvedev To Win Title

It has been an emotional spell bounce season for Aussie player Nick Kyrgios who on two occasions ranted at umpires and at his counterparts Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, but has emerged as the winner of the Citi Open in Washington, D.C. on Sunday for his second 500 ATP title of the season.

Nick battled through a hard-fought final against veteran player Daniil Medvedev and served an ace to wrap the match up to win in straight sets 7-6(6), 7-6(4). The Russian faced no breakpoints against the 24-year-old and won 88 per cent of his first-serve point.

Medvedev took an early break in the first set tiebreak at 2-5 but Nick rallied back and won four set points and took the first set when the Russian hit wide a forehand return.

"We all know how well Nick can play when he wants to," Medvedev said admitting his opponent deserved the victory, "This week he wanted to play and he was tough."

Nick was much more in control of the second set tiebreak and gained an early break at 5-3 before serving two aces for match points to lift the Silverware on Deuce Court. Of course, he followed his tradition of asking someone in the crowd where he should serve for his championship point.

"This has honestly been one of my favourite weeks of my life," says Kyrgios who improved 2-0 against Medvedev in ATP FedEx series. "You guys were amazing. It was honestly a week to remember."

Nick will receive $365,390 in championship price money and gained 500 ATP points whilst the runner-up, Medvedev, will get 300 ATP points and $183,780 in price money.
