Cincinnati Masters: Roger Federer Crashes Out After Losing To Andrey Rublev

Roger Federer suffered a humiliating defeat to an unseeded player Andrey Rublev who had sweeping straight sets 6-3, 6-4 win to advance into the quarter-finals.

The seven-time titlist was obviously not playing his best tennis and in 62 minutes had been stunned by the Russian who saved 2-in-3 break faced against him. Unfortunately for the Swiss, that was their first ATP FedEx meeting.

Explaining what could have gone wrong, the third seed attributed the loss to unfamiliarity with the style of play of the 21-year-old, a factor he claimed would not plague him playing against top players like Rafael Nadal or Novak Djokovic.

"If I play Rafael Nadal pr Novak Djokovic, I know more or less what they are going to do or can do," said the 38-year-old. "it's maybe a small advantage to have over us, but regardless, you've still got to hit the corners, hit the lines, keep it going. He [Rublev] did exactly that."

The next event in line for the world no. 3 is the US Open which follows this tournament before the closing even in ATP Finals in London, United Kingdom
