Cincinnati Masters: Daniil Medvedev Thrashes David Goffin To Win First Masters 1000 Title

Daniil Medvedev has won his first-ever ATP Masters 1000 title at the Western and Southern Open in his third final match appearance in three weeks.

The Russian followed in his superlative performance against top seed Novak Djokovic in the semi-final and fought through the final against David Goffin to win in straight sets 7-6(3), 6-4.

"It's the hard work I've been putting in. It would not be good to lose three finals in a row, so I'm happy really about this," he said at a post-match interview.

Goffin only won 1-in-3 break points chances against the Russian and winning 69 per cent of his first serve points as against the champion who won 90 per cent of his.

In the semifinal, Medvedev made a ruthless comeback against Djokovic after dropping the first set, and served most aces the Serb has ever conceded enroute defeat in three sets in this season.

Medvedev will receive title prize money of $1,114,225 and 1000 ATP points while Goffin will get 500 ATP points and prize money of $564,005.
