Canada Open: Rafael Nadal Thrash Daniil Medvedev For Fifth Title In Melbourne
Rafael Nadal breezed through the final match against Daniil Medvedev to claim the Coupe Rogers title in Melbourne for the fifth time and his 35th ATP Masters 1000 title - the biggest for a player in tennis history.
Winning in straight sets, Nadal wasted no time in thrashing the Russian by 6-3, 6-0 and saved the only break point faced against him. It was both Medvedev's first encounter in any ATP tournaments with the Spaniard who has won all five final match appearances at the Coupe Rogers in Melbourne.
"I think I played a very solid match, my best match of the week," says Nadal on winning his third title of the season after Italian and French Open.
In all-time biggest winners at the event, Nadal ties with Canadian legend Charles Smith Hyman (5) and trailed only Czech-American player Ivan Lendi who leads with six titles.
Novak Djokovic yet dominated in ATP Ranking with 12,415 points, but the Spaniard will earn 1000 ATP points for winning the title and $1,049,040 in prize money. On the other hand, Medvedev gained 600 ATP points.
