Bayern Munich Agree To Loan Move For Barcelona's Philippe Coutinho

Philippe Coutinho is on the brink of leaving Barcelona for German Bundesliga side Bayern Munich who have agreed to sign the attacking midfielder to the club for a season-long loan move with a clause for a permanent stay.

Barca suffered a disappointing 1-0 away defeat to Athletic Bilbao on La Liga opening day on Friday which Phil did not feature in neither Lionel Messi who was ruled out for a calf injury.

Initially, top on Bayern's target was Manchester City's winger Leroy Sane, who was deemed as a suitable player to replace the club's retired players, Arjen Robben and Franck Riberry, but failed to accomplish the move. They were forced to switch interest for Barcelona Phil Coutinho after Liverpool declined interest in him.

The Germans transfer window closes on September 2 but a deal is reportedly set to be completed for the Brazilian in a matter of days. Speaking of signing the 27-year-old, the club's chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said, "The name doesn't matter, only the quality."

Phil moved to the Catalan club in a £142m signing from Liverpool in 2017, yet, he happened not to be a favourite midfielder throughout his 18 months spell during which he scored 12 goals in 72 appearances.
