Austrian Open Kitzbuhel: Dominic Thiem Beats Albert Ramos-Vinolas For First Home Title Win
Dominic Thiem for the first time won a title on home soil in straight sets 7-6(0), 6-1 win over Spaniard player Albert Ramos-Vinolas in the final match of Austrian Open Kitzbuhel.
The victory will be Thiem's second title of the season, winning his first at Indian Well Masters in three sets 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 win over Roger Federer. Also, he turned out to be the Austrian to lift a trophy in Kitzbuhel.
"It was one of the most emotional moments because I have a special connection with Kitzbuhel," said Thiem who saved all six break points faced against Vinolas.
The first set was interrupted by rainfall at 4-5, and on their return to court, the world no. 4 had saved five break points faced against his opponent as the set would enter into a tiebreak. Hence, Ramos-Vinolas resilience has dropped as the Austrian won straight five match points to claim the set.
It was much easier for Thiem at the second set and dictated the game match as he would seal the match for the victory in one hour and 38 minutes.
"Today is obviously not the best day for me," said Ramos who gained 150 ATP points and €48,870 in prize money "I lost against a great opponent on his best surface, in his country, with all the crowd with him."
