Wimbledon 2019: Rafael Nadal Thrashes Kick Kyrgios In Hard-Fought Second Round Match

Australian veteran Nick Kyrgios could not get past Rafael Nadal in the second round match despite devising underhand service twice.

The hard-fought match went through four sets with two tiebreaks before the third seed could shove off the easily irritated Kyrgios by 6-3, 3-6, 7-6(5), 7-6(3) to get through to third round.

Nadal, who is bidding for his third title at the Championship proved to his opponent that he can handle his trick even if that be underarm which he first did in the opening set to win a game point.

"It was an important victory for me, sometimes it's tough to see a couple of things on the court," Nadal said on his second meeting with Nick at Wimbledon - in 2001, the Spaniard lost to his opponent in the third round then at the age of 19.

After Nick netted a backhand return to lose the match in the fourth set, it was obvious Nadal was glad to have survived the round as he slight jumped up and pointed to his opponent in delight of the victory.

Speaking at the match, Nick admitted he would need to step up his game to be able to contest favourably with the Spaniard.

There's a lot of things I need to improve on to get to that level that Rafa brings, Novak, Roger have been doing for so long," he said at a press conference "Just depends [on] how bad I want it."

Nadal set up a third-round match with French veteran Jo-Wilfried Tsonga who reached the round with three sets 7-6(4), 6-3, 6-3.
