Wimbledon 2019: Roger Federer Edges Out Lucas Pouille For 350th Win In Grand Slam

Roger Federer shrugged off threats from Lucas Pouille en route claiming his 350th Grand Slam match win and progressed to the fourth round of The Championship.

Pouille was eliminated in three sets 7-5, 6-2, 7-6(4) by the second seed on their second ATP FedEx meetings since 2014 at French Open.

From that start of the match, Lucas Pouille seemed as one who posed some threat to the eight-time titlist but he saved a break point at 5-5 and won the opener when the Frenchman hit a forehand wide.

Federer had an early break in the second set, winning straight four games and claimed 3-in-6 break points en route winning the set. However, Pouille got fired up in the decider and saved a break point at 5-6 to force the set into a tiebreak. Eventually, he was eliminated in three sets after netting a backhand return following a forehand shot from Federer.

"I'm happy that I'm able to raise my level of play. There was a great run of games midway through the second, also after winning the first. I like seeing moments like that in a match for me," he said afterwards.

The Swiss who will be playing his 17th fourth round match at The Championship - a feat he ties only with Jimmy Connor - will meet Italian player Matteo Berrettini who outlasted Argentine veteran Diego Schwartzman in five sets  6-7(5), 7-6(2), 4-6, 7-6(5), 6-3.
