Wimbledon 2019: Roger Federer Beats Rafael Nadal To Set Up Final Match Against Novak Djokovic
The Championship final has been set between top seed Novak Djokovic and his Swiss counterpart Roger Federer who thrashed Rafael Nadal in the semi-final.
Both Federer and Nadal were meeting at Wimbledon again for the first since 2008 and it was such a contentious match that the second seed had to engage his best form and skills especially net charging tactics to outshine Nadal in fourth sets, 7-6(3), 6-1, 6-3, 6-4.
"It's definitely, definitely going to go down as one of my favourite matches to look back at, again, because it's Rafa, it's at Wimbledon, the crowds were into it, great weather. I felt like I played good throughout the four sets. I can be very happy."
The Spaniard saved eight in ten break points faced against Federer who broke his first in the third set to take a 3-1 lead and saved two breaks faced against the third seed to claim the set.
In the end, at the fourth set, Nadal conceded two match points at 4:5 to lose the match. First, he hit a volley before Nadal hit wide a backhand return as Federer would win to improve 16:24 against him in ATP FedEx head2head counts.
Federer will be making his 12th appearance in the Wimbledon final and will be contesting for his ninth title on Centre Court against Djokovic on their 48th career meetings.
