Manchester City Sign Rodri From Atletico Madrid Five-Year Contract For £62.8 Million

Atletico Madrid midfielder Rodri has completed a move to Manchester City for a five-year contract at £62.8 million on Wednesday.

Rodri will be second signing completed by Pep Guardiola in this transfer window in the build-up to next season campaign after a successful run of 2018/19 season when they won first English domestic treble - Premier League title, FA Cup and EFL Carabao Cup.

The 23-year-old has yet four-year to run in his contract signed with the Spaniards from Villareal in 2018 where he made 34 appearances and scored three goals. However, City deemed him to be a suitable replacement for their ageing midfielder Fernandino.

Speaking about the move, the Spain international mentioned that the club's achievements in two previous seasons are reasons that "excites" him to leave his previous club and join the "talented squad".

"It's not just the titles they won, but the way the managed it, playing attacking football at all time," Rodri said, "It's a style that excites me, as do the club's ambitions."

Guardiola's first signing this season is PSV Eindhoven defender Angelino who joined the club in a four-year contract on Wednesday.
