Liverpool: Divock Origi Signs New Long Term Contract
Divock Origi will be staying at Liverpool much longer as he has committed more years to the club after signing to a long term contract on Wednesday.
The forward moved to Anfield from Ligue 1 side Lille on a five-year contract in 2014 and in the same season left the club on loan move back to Lille where spent a season (2014-15), then on another loan move to Bundesliga side VFL Wolfsburg where he spent yet a season (2017-18) before returning back to Anfield and made his first appearance in December.
Liverpool has the 27-year-old to thank for winning the Champions League last month as the Belgian scored the winning goal on the brink of full-time to secure a 2-0 victory over Tottenham. He led Reds on a remarkable comeback from a 3-0 deficit to Barcelona from the first-leg, to thrash the Spaniards 4-0 with him scoring a brace.
Reds manager Jurgen Klopp admitted Origi has not had it smooth at the club until his return from Wolfsburg and after intense training peaked on his form and delivered important match victories to the club after scoring much-needed goals that culminated in winning the Champions League for the sixth time.
"It didn't really work out at Wolfsburg and, coming back, he was thinking about leaving, But he grew and grew, in training sessions, you could see it, and he scored unbelievably important goals," said Klopp "Now he is this wonderful player again so it's great to have him"
Origi, speaking on his new contract said: "I'm very happy to be able to sign this contract and it gives you a boost at the beginning of the season, as well as the end of the season last year."
"I always felt comfortable here. I made steps during my career, I say that I became a man here at this club, I signed when I was 19."
