Jose Mourinho Turns Down £88 Million Deal

Jose Mourinho was on the brink of becoming the most expensive manager in the world but he would not leave European football league at this moment for any price.

Chinese league side Guangzhou Evergrande reportedly offered the former Manchester United manager an £88 million deal plus bonuses to be their new manager, but the offer was declined by the Portuguese. Instead, he is understood to prefer to be with his family in Europe.

He recently rejected interest from Newcastle United to replace Rafa Benitez who left the club for China blaming his decision on the club lack of vision to win trophies but glad to stay in the middle of the Premier League.

Mourinho reportedly met with the Chinese side's chairman Xu Jiayin in April and both discussed the contract which also comes with an option for him to choose the duration. All those goodies did not yet sit well with the two-time Champions League winning manager.

"I know exactly what I don't want," he told Sky Sports "I know what I want, in terms of not the specific club but the nature of the job, the dimension of the job."

The 56-year-old was sacked by United day after losing 3-1 to Liverpool in December and was replaced by Ole Solksjaer Gunnar who finished the season with the club in sixth place of the Premier League. At United, he led the team to win the Europa League title (2016-17), EFL Cup (2016-17) and the FA Community Shield (2016).
