Hamburg Open: Nikoloz Basilashvili Upsets Alex Zverev To Take On Andrey Rublev In Final
Nikoloz Basilashvili staged a remarkable comeback to beat Alexander Zverev to reach the final by saving two match points to win in three sets 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (5).
After levelled up by winning the second set, the home favourite, Zverev, was set for victory after recovery from 1-3 down winning four straight games his Greek opponent broke back from 3-5 in the third set and forced the set into a tie-break.
Zverev broke for a 2-5 lead in the tie-break, yet the 27-year-old rallied and won straight five match points to claim his first victory over the German in three ATP FedEx meetings.
"In the tie-break, I was really concentrated on the ball," Basilashvili said. "But inside I think Sascha was also very tight and emotional, and me also because it is one or two points that decide the match."
The final match is set up between Basilashvili and Andrey Rublev who routed the top seed Dominic Thiem in the quarter-finals and Pablo Carreno Busta in the semi-finals.
