Atletico Madrid Agree With Chelsea To Retain Loan Striker Alvaro Morata On Permanent Contract

Atletico Madrid have agreed to offer Alvaro Morata permanent deal after his loan move from Chelsea to the club expires next year.

The forward joined Chelsea's record signing of a five-year contract for £60 million from Real Madrid in 2017, but the move did not pay off as his performance spiralled down at the English side and was put on a loan move to the Spanish side.

Atletico confirmed the development in a statement on Saturday, that the 26-year-old will remain at the club on a permanent contract after completing 2019-2020 season at the club.

"The Spanish striker will play at our club on loan this season, as was agreed when he joined Atletico in the January transfer window, and the move will become permanent at the beginning of the 2020-21 season," the statement reads.

Alvaro is in better shape on his loan spell to Atletico where he has scored 17 goals since he joined the team in January transfer window. Atletico finished 2018-19 season in the second position behind La Liga title winners FC Barcelona.

"Happy, it's official," Alvaro wrote in a caption to an Instagram picture update "Now I will have time to return with work and goals all the effort of the club and the affection of the hobby. Thank you."

During his spell at Chelsea, won with the club the FA Cup with the club's then manager Jose Mourinho and has a record of 24 goals in 72 appearances.
