AFC Ajax: Matthijs de Ligt Completes Move To Juventus
In just a matter of hours, Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt will officially become Juventus player as he is reportedly on his way to Italy to complete his move.
Juventus landed a £68 million deal with the Dutch side's captain despite several efforts made by Barcelona to get the player but failed to match the Italian side's offer.
Other top European clubs like Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain were also said to be interested in the 19-year-old who played a leading role in Ajax's successful run in the 2018-19 season during which they won double domestic titles - Eredivisie and the Dutch Cup.
In the same season, Ajax nearly made it to the Champions League final but only to be beaten Tottenham in the semi-final with a second-leg comeback that saw their 1-0 advantage from first-leg wiped off in a 2-3 defeat to the English side at home.
Matthijs, who in his debut season at the club (2016-17), led the team to finish as UEFA Europa League runners-up, has a record of eight goals in 77 domestic appearances at the club.
