Toronto Raptors Kawhi Leonard Sues Nike Over Logo
Kawhi Leonard has dragged sportswear manufacturer Nike to court over a logo which he claimed belongs to him and the brand which has registered it in for trademark.
The Raptors forward claimed he did not transfer logo right to the footwear maker but only allowed it to use the hand-like symbol basically as part of his endorsement deal with the brand.
According to reports, the 27-year-old claimed in his lawsuit that the logo was drawn by himself after the shape of his large hand with an inscription to form his initials "KL"
"Leonard traced his notably large hand, and inside the hand, drew stylised versions of his initials, 'KL'," he claimed in the lawsuit "And the number that he had worn for much of his career, '2'."
The lawsuit also stated that the Leonard allowed the use to the logo "on certain merchandise" after he had signed an endorsement deal with Nike.
Leonard whose contract with the footwear maker expired in September, wants to regain ownership of the logo which he started using after he was drafted into the NBA in 2011. He filed his case against Nike at the US District Court for the Southern District of California.
