Stuttgart Open: Matteo Berettini Set Up Final Match With Felix Auger Alliassime As Milos Raonic Retires
Felix Auger Alliassime has made it to the Mercedes Cup final after his countryman Milos Raonic retired from the semi-finals.
Former world no. 3, Raonic, blamed his decision to pull out on lower back injury paving the way for the teenager to appear in his third final of the year.
Alliassime's contender Matteo Berettini will be bidding for his second title of the season having won Hungarian Open in April and that was his career second ATP tour-level title.
Berettini, 23, defeated Swiss ace and the championship favourite Jan-Lennard Struff in straight sets 6-4, 7-5 in a semi-final match that lasted for an hour and 14 minutes.
"He's a great player. He's in his third final this year and for sure he's playing really well," the Italian said on meeting the seventh seed in the final "I never played him, I just practise once [with him] here for the first time."
