Rapper Common Commends Moves To Cancel 'Owner' Title In NBA
Cancelling 'owner' title in NBA is a welcome move to rapper Common who praised the teams and league office for making the right decision stating that nobody should own anybody.
There have been complaints about the title with the occupiers of these offices accused of being racially disconnected to players especially those from African-American descent.
Common told TMZ Sports team that the term is one that has not always resonate with him and agreed with the NBA commissioner Adam Silver's decision to change the term.
"The term used to strike me...It didn't sit right with me," he said when approached by TMZ in Los Angeles "The history of what we have or who we are as black people in this country and to be a part of an organisation and the CEO be called owner...it's just not really being considerate of the history.
He accepted the use of other terms like 'Governor' 'Managing Partner' or better still a 'Chairman' saying that nobody can owner the players because they are "professionals".
