Michel Platini Arrested And In Custody For Role Played In Qatar Winning World Cup 2022 Hosting Right

Former UEFA President Michel Platini has been arrested for his involvement in an alleged corrupt practice connecting to FIFA's decision to award the hosting of the 2022 World Cup to Qatar.

The arrest was following an investigation launched by France's Parquet National Financier into his alleged role in using his position as Uefa boss to influence Fifa vote on World Cup hosting right to favour Qatar in 2010.

Prior to the arrest, Platini had admitted to playing a vital role in securing the ticket for Qatar but revealed he did to consolidate France's former President Nicola Sarkozy and Emir of Qatar relationship for trade contracts.

He pointed out that he had lunch with the two leaders at the Élysee Palace in 2010 where they discussed on the issue and from there after, he had made up his mind to vote for the country.

Eventually, the United States of America lost the bid for the right to Qatar which he also revealed was favoured by his former Fifa President Joseph Blatter.

However, it all paid off for France in tern's of trades but the 63-year-old is currently been held in custody in Nanterre in western Paris.

The ex-France international was served six years ban from all football activities in 2015 for so-called "disloyal payment" of 2m Swiss Franc he recieved from Blatter in 2011. The sentence was later reduced to four years following an appeal and he resigned his position as Uefa boss afterwards.
