Luis Enrique Steps Down As Spain National Team Manager For "Personal Reasons"
Luis Enrique has quit his role as Spain national team manager after leading the squad for less than a year.
The 49-year-old was appointed on a two-year contract to replace former teammate at Barcelona and national manager Fernando Hierro last year. Unfortunately, he only lasted for eleven months blaming his decision on "personal reasons".
President of the Spanish Federation, Luis Rubiales, confirmed Enrique departure and revealed that his assistance Robert Moreno will replace him in the role.
"It was a decision Luis Enriques took himself, which we are grateful for," Rubiales said in a statement "We will have a perfect memory of him...We think It's the best thing to do."
"We are convinced that the best response is the most prepared team and that team is represented by Robert [Moreno] and his group, who arrived with Luis Enrique."
Eric last appeared with the team in a 2-0 victory over Malta in March and has ever since not been since with the team after returning home for family reasons.
At the Fifa 2018 World Cup in Russia, Eric led Spain to reach last 16 and knocked out by the host country Russia after penalty shootouts.
