French Open: Rafael Nadal Coasts To Final After Eliminating Roger Federer
Rafael Nadal extended his dominance over Roger Federer winning his 24th match in the 39th edition of their ATP FedEx series after thrashing the Swiss in Roland Garros in the semi-finals.
The Spaniard and 11-time champion quickly swept through the first set over the world no. 3 who broke back in the second set but was eventually outshone by the second seed in three sets by 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 after two and a half hour of play on Court Philippe Chartrier.
Nadal properly contained Federer's backhand slices and put to check his attack to the net by sending his forehand shot deep into the court winning 81 per cent of his service point as against the Swiss who committed 17 unforced errors.
In the end, both players complained about the unfavourable weather in which they played and as for Nadal, he said that it was "a day to focus, accept all the adversities, and just be focused on positives all the time. That's what I tried to do."
Nadal's 12th final match in Roland Garros will be against either Novak Djokovic or Dominic Thiem whose semi-final match has been suspended over adverse weather condition.
